Location
Whatever your reason for coming to Christchurch we think you will find Bartlett by the Park is in a perfect location.

Bartlett by the Park is an ideal base to see the sights of Christchurch. If you don’t fancy taking a car to the city, you can walk or cycle through the park (or rent a Lime scooter) and you will arrive in the area with the arts centre, art galleries, city centre and the tourist tram.

Hagley park is one of Christchurch’s greatest assets and it is on your doorstop so you can avail of all it offers: Shared walk and cycle paths, botanic gardens, children’s playground, golf, Ilex Cafe etc. Hagley Park is also home to Hagly Oval, cricket ground. The cherry blossom trees in spring, annual light festival and New Years Eve fireworks are calendar highlights.

The Riccarton area has a fantastic array of cafes and resturants. There are so many great options with great variety and in all price ranges within walking distance! If you don’t fancy cooking you can eat out in a different place every meal. Our visitors’ guide will point you to some of our favourites.

15 minutes walk will take you to Christchurch’s largest shopping centre – Westfield Mall. With all the high street names and some local favourites you should be able to fill your shopping bags. There are two food courts and a cinema if you need to take a break from shoping.

If you are fortunate enough to be here at the weekend you can walk to the fabulous Deans Bush Saturday Morning Farmers’ Market or drive to the Sunday market at Riccarton Racecourse. Try some local delights and snap up a bargain.

If you enjoy keeping fit while away from home, you are close to gyms as well as having the park practically on your doorstep the park for runs/ cycles/ fitness stations.

Families enjoy the relative quietness of Bartett Street, the enclosed outdoor space for children to play and the proximity to Hagley Park and children’s playground. If you are visiting with children, make sure to visit the Margaret Mahy Playground in the city.

Many of our bookings are from people travelling to Christchurch for work or working from home while on their travels. A well equipped kitchen and a dedicated worspace with very fast broadband make work-life easy. It is a short distance to Canterbury University, Christchurch Hospital and the city. You have off street/ garage parking and don’ need to seek out a street park.

There are lots of places to visit on day trips including the scenic French Village of Akaroa and the Thermal springs at Hanmer Springs. You can go skiing at Porter Heights or Mt Hutt. The TransAlpine Train trip is a popular excursion.

We are on the bus route between the city and the airport so if you don’t want to drive/rent a car you will still be easily able to see the city.
With easy transport links to Christchurch Airport, if you are flying into or out of Christchurch Airport,it is hassle free to get to the house by car or public transport. We are a short uber ride to the railway station if you plan to go on the transalpine train. We have garage and off street parking which is much easier (and cheaper) than looking for a public parking space in the city. The back house has an EV charger (bring your own cable) so, if you stay there, you won’t need to use public charging stations during your stay. This is provided at no extra charge.

If you are relocation from overseas and want a base for a few months while you find your feet, we may be able to accommodate you. The houses are in good school zones and, as we have moved to NZ from Ireland a number of years ago, we are more than happy to answer your questions and help you settle into this beautiful country.

If you are planning to host a party then, unfortunately, this is not the place for you. We have very strict noise and outdoor use restrictions. In order to maintain great relationships with our neighbours and retain our local consent to operate visitor accommodation breach of these regulations will lead to immediate end of your stay with no refund.
